Montréal is known for its vibrant food scene and unique combination of English and French influences. While the restaurant landscape evolves constantly, I won’t focus on specific locations here—but do make sure to check out some of the city's top-rated eateries!
Day 1: La Grande Roue de Montréal and Walking Tour
We spent the first day exploring the charming streets of Montréal west of the St. Lawrence River. This area is home to many of the city’s historic buildings, offering a glimpse of Montréal’s European flair. While much of the architecture can be admired from the street, some churches and monuments are worth stepping inside if you have the time.
As you stroll, look out for notable landmarks such as:
Notre-Dame Basilica of Montréal
McGill University
The Ring
Olympic Torch
Reading Monkeys Statue
Montreal City Hall
The Clock Tower
St. Patrick’s Basilica
Mary Queen of the World Cathedral
Nelson Monument
Place Jacques-Cartier
Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel
Bonsecours Market
Next to the waterfront is La Grande Roue de Montréal, a Ferris wheel offering stunning views of the city. I highly recommend taking a ride before wrapping up your day with a lovely dinner at one of Montréal’s renowned restaurants.
Day 2: Mont Royal, the Biosphere Museum, and Departure
Start your morning with a hearty breakfast or brunch before heading to Mont Royal. This gentle hike offers a refreshing escape from the city and leads to the Kondiaronk Belvedere, a viewpoint with panoramic vistas of Montréal. Near the top, you'll find a café—a great spot to relax. For variety, consider taking the Grand Staircase of Mount Royal on the way up and a trail on the way down (or vice versa).
Afterward, catch an Uber to the Biosphere Museum, an architectural gem with exhibits focusing on Montréal’s environment. The highlight is the observation deck on the top floor, showcasing the stunning geometric structure of the building.
Sadly, that’s all the time we had! We picked up our bags and headed to the airport. If you have extra time, Montréal has plenty more to offer, including:
Parc Jean-Drapeau
Planetarium
Montréal Botanical Garden
Insectarium
Biodome
Montreal Museum of Archaeology and History
Montréal is a city full of charm, history, and incredible views, making it a perfect destination for a weekend getaway. Whether you’re drawn to its architecture, food, or outdoor activities, you’re sure to leave with fond memories—and a desire to return.
